Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, reported that Anthony Torres, a 28-year-old resident of Newark, has been convicted by an Essex County jury on charges related to a series of robberies that occurred on the same day in November 2020.
According to spokesman Robert Florida, the charges against Torres are linked to the events of November 15, 2020, when he was captured on video while driving a stolen getaway vehicle during one of the robberies.
On that fateful day, Torres committed two additional robberies on the streets of Newark, targeting unsuspecting victims.
Following a rigorous five-day trial presided over by Superior Judge Arthur Batista, the jury spent four days in deliberation before delivering a verdict of guilt.
Torres has been found guilty of second-degree robbery, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.
Assistant Prosecutor Eliot Skolnick, who led the prosecution alongside Assistant Prosecutor Brianna Sandroni, commended the jury's dedication in thoroughly reviewing the case's evidence and returning a just verdict.
The sentencing for Anthony Torres is scheduled for January 19, 2024, before Judge Batista. He faces the possibility of a maximum sentence of up to 35 years behind bars.
