Newark, Livingston Police Investigate Gunshot Victim That was "Dropped Off" at St. Barnabas Hospital

A joint investigation involving Newark and Livingston Police Departments is underway into a shooting that had a male victim transported by private vehicle to St. Barnanbas Hospital in Livingston early this morning. 

Officials said the victim arrived at the hospital shortly before 3 a.m. seriously injured at the result of gunfire. The vehicle that transported the victim, immediately fled the scene. 

Police in Newark are investigating whether the shooting is connected to a motor vehicle crash that occurred in the area of 14th Ave. and 16th Street about an hour earlier when gunfire erupted shortly after the crash. The occupants in one of the vehicles (only described as three black males) reportedly fled the scene on foot. This vehicle was possibly reported stolen. 

The condition of the victim is unknown as of early Saturday morning.

Investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office have been notified.
