Morristown Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Explicit Assault on a Minor

Authorities in Bergen County announced that on September 29, 2023, Alejandro Velasquez-Martinez of Morristown was sentenced to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison after being convicted of aggravated explicit assault on a minor.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said on May 12, 2023, following a four-day jury trial before the Honorable Nina Remson, J.S.C., in Bergen County Superior Court, Alejandro Velasquez-Martinez was convicted of aggravated explicit assault on a minor, explicit assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to officials, the evidence presented at trial established that on the morning of August 19, 2019, Velasquez-Martinez committed aggravated explicit assault on a minor under 13 years of age while he was doing tile repairs in her family’s home in Demarest.

On September 29, 2023, authorities say, Judge Remson sentenced Velasquez-Martinez to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the Jessica Lunsford Act and the No Early Release Act.

Officials said the State was represented by Bergen County Assistant Prosecutors Meredith Kunz and Katie McLaughlin, with the assistance of Detectives Christina Ferencevych and David Dermody and Victim Witness Advocate Coreen Matarazzo.
