Authorities are investigating the death of an East Orange woman who had been reported missing in Newark this week.
Police responded to reports of an unconscious and unresponsive individual found inside Building 66 of the Bradley Court Housing Project shortly before 7:45 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Ms. Rhanasia A. Knight, who had been reported missing earlier in the week.
An apartment in the building, which was unpccupied, was immediately taped off, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was called to the scene.
According to East Orange Police Knight, an East Orange resident had been missing for four days.
Police say Knight was last seen on Sunday, December 1, 2024 leaving from the 100 block of S. Clinton Street in East Orange at 7:30pm, allegedly headed to Bradley Court at North Munn and Tremont Avenues in Newark.
She had black and green box braids, is 5’5” tall, and weighs approximately 250 pounds. Knight was wearing a black and gray baseball jacket, pink shirt, and sweatpants.
Distinguishing marks include a large tattoo on her neck and a clover tattoo on her stomach.
Detectives searched the surrounding area and portions of the housing complex for evidence to determine the circumstances leading to Knight’s death, including the possibility of foul play.
As of 4:30 a.m. reports, there were no indications that the incident involved foul play.
As the investigation remains active and ongoing, authorities have not yet released additional details.
