Man Killed After Crashing Car into Tree in Marlboro

Officials said at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Marlboro Township Police Department received several 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 18 Southbound between Route 520 and Route 79. 

According to Marlboro Police, the vehicle, a 2008 grey Honda Accord left the roadway and struck a large tree.  

The driver, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Police withheld the identity of the victim pending notification of his family members.

Authorities said of now, there are no witnesses to the crash and the cause is under investigation. 

Route 18 Southbound was shut at the Rt. 520/Tennent Road ramps while the crash was being investigated. The roadway was reopened at approximately 10:00 a.m.

Responding to the crash included members of the Marlboro Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police, Quality Medical Transport, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic Health Paramedics, Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Department of Transportation. 

Patrolman Christopher VanCuren of the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigated the crash.
