Man Charged with Newark South Ward Armed Robbery

Police reported the arrest of Mr. Gian Dominiguez, 21, of Newark, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, July 21. 

Newark Police said at approximately 10:20 p.m., a male victim had a verbal altercation with a suspect in the 900 block of Bergen Street.

The suspect walked away, telling the victim he would be back. He returned, in the company of another male, and put a gun to the head of the victim, demanding all the victim’s belongings before fleeing toward Scheerer Avenue.

5th Precinct Officers patrolling the area observed Dominiguez, who fit the description of the suspect, walking on Scheerer Avenue and ordered him to stop.

Police said brief pursuit ensued, with the suspect tossing a tan fanny pack.  

The suspect, Dominiguez, was apprehended at Hunterdon Street and Shephard Avenue without further incident.

Arresting officers located a loaded 9mm handgun, 47 jugs of suspected CDS crack cocaine, and $413.05 in the tossed bag. The handgun had been reported stolen out of South Lumberton, North Carolina.

Dominiguez faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of prohibited weapons (large capacity magazine), and CDS distribution.
