Linden Officials Confirm Investigation Underway by Prosecutor as to the Handling of Officer's DWI Charges

Linden Mayor Derek Armstead confirmed today that an investigation is underway by the Union County Prosecutor's Office as to how the Linden Police Department handled Pedro Abad's two DUI charges during his six years on the force. 

"We are relying on prosecutor's office to handle the investigation. We feel that they will do a complete and thorough job" Mayor Derek Armstead said. 

Spokesman Mark Spivey however said that the office will not comment on an active internal affairs investigations, nor would he confirm nor deny such an investigation.

Linden Officer Pedro Abad, was behind the wheel while driving north in the southbound lanes of the West Shore Expressway in Staten Island when sometime before 5 a.m, collided head-on with a tractor-trailor. 

Among the four occupants in the vehicle, two were killed while two others, including the driver, remain in separate hospitals.
