Jersey City Woman Charged with Housing Authority Theft

Authorities in Hudson County reported on Thursday, August 10, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit arrested a 53-year-old woman following an investigation into funds reported missing from the Jersey City Housing Authority.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said Tyest Bryant, of Jersey City, is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, a crime of the third degree.

According to officials, she was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released on a summons pending her first court appearance, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Prosecutor Suarez said the investigation found that Bryant, a resident board member for the Booker T. Washington Housing Complex, misused over $20,000 of funds for personal benefit between 2017 and 2022.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit with the investigation and arrest.
