The Essex County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating an incident that unfolded in a park in Belleville earlier this morning.
Police officers were dispatched to a section of Belleville Park, located at Branch Brook Park, shortly before 8:30 a.m. in response to a report of a suspicious situation.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers made the discovery.
Preliminary information revealed that cops found the lifeless body of an unidentified woman in a field situated between Belleville Avenue and, Parkview Avenue, and Mill Street.
Authorities quickly secured the area, including a nearby parking lot where a vehicle with tinted windows was parked.
It remains unclear if the vehicle belonged to the deceased woman.
At this early stage of the investigation, the cause of death has not been determined, and officials have not ruled it a homicide.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has not yet announced its involvement in the case.

UPDATE 5:02 p.m.: The woman’s death is no foul play and non-suspicious.
