An employee of Hudson Arts and Science Middle School in Kearny has been arrested for allegedly making inappropriate contact with two students, according to a statement released by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Omer Sogutcu, 36, of Garfield, was taken into custody on Thursday, June 5, at the school’s district office in Fair Lawn.
He faces charges of sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say the alleged incidents occurred in October 2024 at the Kearny charter school, where Sogutcu worked as an IT professional.
According to the prosecutor’s office, two female students under the age of 13 reported that Sogutcu exposed himself and solicited them to engage in sexual conduct.
Sogutcu was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance.
The investigation was led by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit with assistance from the Kearny Police Department.
