Authorities in Union County are investigating the motive behind the shooting that injured a person in Elizabeth.

In the city's second shots fired incident of the day, police responded to reports of a person shot near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Virginia Street shortly before 9:45 p.m.

Several units arrived at the scene and found the unidentified person suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police also noticed a car collision that may have occurred during the shooting.

Earlier in the day, police set up a crime scene inside the parking lot of a Home Depot after gunfire erupted in the parking lot. A vehicle was found with the windows shot out, but no victims were inside.

Authorities have not released motives for either incident.
