Police in Newark’s West Ward are investigating a shooting incident with a male struck by gunfire this evening.
At approximately 5:15 p.m., Newark’s Shooting Response Team and EMS were dispatched to reports of shots fired on South Orange Avenue near Smith Street.
Upon arrival, police found a male victim struck by gunfire at that location.
He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in serious condition.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
