Gunfire Strike, Injures Man in East Orange; State Report Shows Increase in Violent Crimes in the City

East Orange

Authorities in East Orange are investigating an overnight shooting that took place in the city.

EMS transported a male victim to University Hospital in Newark after gunfire rang out in the 70's block of Hawthorne Ave. shortly before 2:30 a.m. reportedly striking the man in the head. The condition of the man is unknown.  It is not immediately clear if the man was the intended target.

There were no reported arrest in the shooting.

NJ State reports are showing a rise in violent crimes in the city, with a large percentage showing "cleared"

(In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, law enforcement agencies can clear, or “close,” offenses in one of two ways: by arrest or by exceptional means. Although an agency may administratively close a case, that does not necessarily mean that the agency can clear the offense for UCR purposes)
