Former Newark Police Director Injured in Accidental Shooting in Cedar Grove

On Friday, March 22, in Cedar Grove, NJ, Anthony F. Ambrose, III, the former Newark Police Director and Chief of Detectives in the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, sustained injuries from an accidental firearm discharge.

Chicken Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II confirmed the occurrence, which took place within a private office complex, leading to Ambrose being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently treated and released from a local hospital.

The Cedar Grove Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting.

Details remain scarce, and Prosecutor Stephens has refrained from commenting on speculations from other media outlets regarding the presence of Mitchell G. McGuire III, the Chief of County Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, at the scene of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
