Essex County Prosecutor's Office to Host Boys Conference

Cedar Grove New Jersey

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that on Friday, March 6, 2015, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office will host a youth conference for teenage boys.

More than 250 male students from various high schools in Essex County are expected to attend the “From Boys to Men” youth conference.   The goal of the one-day summit is to encourage young men to make positive choices and to inspire them to become leaders in their communities.

This invitation only youth conference will be held at the Essex County College Police Academy, located at 250 Grove Avenue in Cedar Grove, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Murray is schedule deliver the welcome address.

A panel discussion will explore the dynamics between members of law enforcement and young men in the communities they serve. Moderated by Keith Harvest, college professor and former Chief Assistant Prosecutor, this dialogue will also provide students with tips on how to conduct themselves during encounters with law enforcement.

Students will also participate in workshops that focus on making positive decisions, internet safety, gang violence and driver’s education.

Elaine Lane, founder of the non-profit organization, David Shoes, will provide a workshop to illustrate the effects of gun violence by displaying the shoes of murdered victims.   It is our hope that students will leave this conference inspired to become role models and leaders. Many of the students who will attend this event have been negatively affected by violence in their communities.
