Elizabeth Man Arrested After Brief Chase Ends in Crash

A city man led police on a brief chase before he came to a halt after his vehicle struck the curb leading to his arrested late Tuesday, authorities said.

The pursuit began in the area of Catherine and Anna Streets when an Elizabeth police officer tried to stop the 18-year-old city resident around 11:05 p.m., according to Lt. Daniel Geddes.

The man than struck the curb and became disabled in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Trinity Place, where the driver attempted to flee on foot, Geddes added. 

According to Lt. Geddes, the suspect was quickly apprehended by the police officers.

He was charged with eluding police and resisting arrest. The man also had a $500 court warrant in the City of Elizabeth.

Several motor vehicle summonses were also issued to the driver after booking, added the lieutenant.
