A dump truck ignited this evening after it careened into another vehicle on the NJ Turnpike, killing a passenger in the other vehicle which also igniting.
Officials said that crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. at mile marker 99.5 of the southbound lane on the New Jersey Turnpike near exit 13.
Elizabeth and Linden fire fighters responded to a fully engulfed truck when shortly after the second vehicle also became engulfed in flames killing a passenger inside.
According to state trooper, drivers of both vehicles escaped the flames but a passenger was fatally injured.
The identity of the fatal victim is being withheld at this time.
Driver of the car was taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
