The Essex County Sheriff's Office is currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual in Watsessing Park, East Orange.
The incident, which happened on Thursday night around 6 p.m., has prompted a thorough examination by law enforcement and emergency responders.
Authorities were alerted to the situation on the Dodd Street side of the park, where reports indicated an unconscious person was seen in the creek.
Upon their arrival, officers found the unresponsive individual and quickly cordoned off the area to establish a potential crime scene.
The State Regional Medical Examiner's Office was present at the scene and will be tasked with determining the cause of death of the unidentified person.
As the investigation continues, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has indicated that the Sheriff's Office is leading the inquiry at this stage. No foul play has been immediately reported.
Currently, no additional information has been released regarding the circumstances of the incident.
