An arrest of an alleged carjacking suspect by Newark Police has authorities continuing to investigate.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose , police arrested Sean Jenerette, 21, of Newark, for a carjacking last week.
Director Ambrose said, at midnight on Thursday, December 8, 2016, a 26-year old male victim stopped his vehicle at Clifton and 7th avenues when a male suspect opened the front passenger door, pointed a gun at him and ordered him out of the car.
The suspect fled in the vehicle, which also contained the victim’s wallet, cash, bank cards, cell phone and other personal items Director Ambrose said.
The carjacked vehicle was located later that day by police in the 300-block of Goldsmith Avenue.
Through their investigation, detectives identified Jenerette as a suspect, arrested him in the area with the items stolen from the vehicle. He was charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
As part of the continuing investigation, detectives identified Jenerette as a suspect in the carjacking. A warrant for his arrest was issued and the Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested him today without incident.
He is charged with Carjacking, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
