Police in Newark are investigating a broad daylight shooting that erupted in the city’s South Ward on Sunday afternoon, sending officers to the scene near a local catering hall. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Avon Avenue, in the area of 14 Elizabeth Avenue. Multiple rounds of gunfire were reported. When officers arrived, they secured the area and discovered several shell casings. The scene, which included the vicinity of a catering hall, was taped off as officers searched for potential victims and additional evidence. No injuries were reported, and the suspect fled before police arrived. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
