Police in Newark are investigating a crash that caused a vehicle to ignite into flames after it slammed into a pole this morning in the city’s South Ward.

According to police, at approximately 9:45 a.m., police were called to the vicinity of 272 Lyons Avenue -at Clinton Place- to investigate reports of a crash at that location.
Upon arrival, police found a car fully involved in flames after the driver somehow lost control and crashed into a utility pole.
PSEG crews were called to the scene to shut off power to the damaged pole while firefighters worked to avoid intense flames from extending to a nearby building.
There were no severe injuries immediately reported and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
