Union County fire officials are on the scene of a house fire that resulted in fatal injuries in Cranford on Sunday morning.
According to preliminary reports, heavy fire tore through a two and a half story wood framed house located in the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue at approximately 6:45 a.m. sending firefighters and mutual assistance to the scene where they learned that there were possible trapped occupants inside the homes.
Crews arrived to find thick smoke and flames engulfing the entire structure.
Firefighters ultimately gained the upper hand and knocked down flames in about an hour, but one person was pronounced dead shortly after the fire began.
Firefighters found the unidentified body of a man on the first floor of the house.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
