Bloomfield Police Department, overall crime throughout the township continues to show a noticeable decline.
However, police are advising residents to remain vigilant after several significant theft incidents were reported between April 13 and April 20, 2025.
Officers responded to the following incidents:
-Vehicle Thefts and Burglaries:
On April 15, a theft from an unattended vehicle occurred on Newark Avenue, where a purse containing cash and credit cards was stolen. On April 17, a vehicle parked overnight on State Street was found with a shattered window, and checks and a debit card were reported missing.
Additionally, on April 19, a MacBook valued at $1,300 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Willow Street.
- Package Theft:
A resident on Franklin Street reported the theft of two packages containing computer equipment valued at over $1,000. The packages went missing between April 11 and April 12 and are under investigation.
-Retail Thefts:
On April 16 and April 20, officers responded to shoplifting incidents at Home Depot and Dollar General, where suspects left the stores with merchandise without making a payment. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
While these incidents represent a small portion activity, as usual the police stress the importance of securing personal property, locking vehicles, and retrieving delivered packages promptly to prevent opportunities for theft.
The department credits the decline in crime to the combined efforts of law enforcement and proactive community engagement but emphasizes that continued vigilance is essential.
Detectives are actively investigating all reported incidents, and additional patrols remain in place in areas with reported activity.
