Attn Husbands: Don't DIY Yourself To Death

By: O.L./Sway Buckley

Some of us guys are very much the DIY type.

Do it yourself.

So the idea of calling professional help feels the opposite of manly—the opposite of what a competent leader would do.

Similar to when it comes to fixing things around the house, in business, many of us men take the "I'll figure it out approach." Sometimes as men, we ignore those signs of needing professional assistance.

Success-Mapping CallWell, just like if it were the dishwasher, tax preparation, or something on the car, there comes the point where calling in support is inevitable. Otherwise, we will frustrate ourselves, our spouses, and our team members.

As marriedpreneurs, this kind of self-awareness is critical.

So what are the signs that it's time to call in help?

In my experience, I've noticed at least three signs that it's time to call in help.

So procrastination is one glaring sign that it's time to get strategic coaching and consulting help.

A second sign is consistently feeling pulled apart: the constant tug of war between business and marriage proves our priorities are typically out of whack, and capacity is hyperextended.

One of the things that strategic coaching and consulting do for married entrepreneurs is help them prioritize what is most important in any given season of life and business.

Finally, the third sign is feeling perplexed: Another way to think about it is feeling puzzled. Whenever we, as men, are uncertain about the precise path forward, our thoughts are gridlocked like rush hour traffic.

Because when we are perplexed or puzzled, or uncertain, decision fatigue sets in. I know firsthand that uncertainty in leadership as a marriedpreneur will only frustrate you and your spouse.

Likewise, your support staff and clients can sense when you are perplexed or unsure about what you're doing.

Puzzlement shows up in sales, marketing, and customer service. Sir, take heed of any of these three signs of needing strategic coaching and consulting.

Don't DIY yourself to death.
