Armed Robbery of Convenience Store in Newark's North Ward Investigated

Newark

An investigation is underway into an armed robbery of a convenience store located in the 500 block of North 6th Street Monday on evening.

The store owner said that two Hispanic males wearing mask and blue clothing walked into the store first appearing to want to purchase something but came around the counter with a gun and demanded cash from the register. The owner said that one of the suspects spoke a combination of English and Spanish while making continuous demands. The other suspect served as a look-out in the front of the store according to the owner.

The men took under a $100 and personal possessions before fleeing the scene.

The owner said the store has been in business for just under two decades and have a good relationship with the community often allowing monthly credit to anyone that can not pay cash up front. "I occasionally have some shoplifting but for the most part the community is descent and shows me support" the owner said.

The incident is under investigation by Newark Police.
