64-Year-Old Man Found Stabbed to Death in Newark's Ironbound Section

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a homicide in the 100 block of Somme Street. 

Authorities said, at approximately 1:00 am, Newark police officers were dispatched to an apartment at that location where arriving officers found an unresponsive male in a third floor apartment. 

Authorities said the male, who was suffering from an apparent stab wound, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:32 am. The victim has been identified as  Dario Rodriguez, 64 of Newark, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit, who added that the exact cause of death will be determined by autopsy. 

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is  ongoing and active at this time, according to Fennelly.
